Supporting Attendance in S1 and S2


We have launched a new initiative to support good attendance.   Each month we will hold a prize draw to reward S1 and S2 students who have sustained over 90% attendance for the month.  Our House Captains lead this initiative, passing out raffle tickets to each pupil in S1 and S2 who have more than 90%.  Students then have to write their name and tutor group onto the slip and post them into the boxes placed in Pupil ...Read More

Applications for Free School Transport

Mathletics Competition for Scottish Maths Week


A reminder to all S1 and S2 students that we are running a Mathletics competition all week, Monday 11th - Friday 15th September. This is Scottish Maths Week - a Government initiative to promote Maths and Numeracy skills across the country.   First prize is £25 and second prize is £15 (vouchers). Free Swimming for Youngsters 15 and Under

Rebecca Sings Her Way Through to Semi-Finals

Handball Team Retain West Lothian Shield


Congratulations to our S3/4 handball team who retained the West Lothian handball shield against some tough opposition in the 'A' finals.  The team won every game in the round robin against St Margaret's, Linlithgow and St Kentigern's. Gold Medal at National Swimming Championships


Swimmer, Dylan Hurst has competed at the SDS National Junior Swimming Championships for the past two years.  Dylan won a Bronze and Silver medal last year and was delighted to finally win a Gold medal in breaststroke this year. Senior Wind Band Achieve Gold Plus Award


The cluster brass ensemble and the senior wind band all attended the Scottish Concert Band Festival at Inveralmond at the weekend.  The cluster brass ensemble competed in the brass ensemble category and were awarded a Silver Plus award. Two National Handball Titles for Deans


Our S3/4 and S5/6 handball teams returned to Deans on Friday with BOTH Scottish Schools' Handball trophies! The S3/4 team sailed through to the final with wins against Our Lady's, Kelvinside, Duncanrig and Marr. The Royal Horticultural Society asked us to make a pop-up garden as part of Gardening Scotland's 'Greening Grey Britain' competition. Cairnpapple Win the Tri-House Cup


The Tri-House Cup, organised by the Higher Sports Leaders, was won by Cairnpapple House. Rotary Young Musician of the Year

Music Students Perform at Sunndach


On Sunday afternoon 15 music students from S1-S6 performed at Sunndach - a unit caring for children with complex disabilities and medical needs. The students were a complete credit to themselves and the school and organised most of the performance themselves. Deans Cluster Band Awarded Gold at Festival


The Deans Cluster Band participated in the Scottish Concert Band Festival on Sunday. The Cluster Band is made up of students from Deans and our feeder primaries. They were the first and only band to compete in the new 'Ensemble' class. They played incredibly well (especially for 9:30am on a Sunday morning) and were award a GOLD AWARD! Strong Showing at Handball Finals


  Our S3/4 and S5/6 handball teams were at Ravenscraig Sports Facility, Motherwell, last week to compete at the National Handball Finals.  The S3/4 team came through the round robin with a 100% record, beating Belmont, Auchinleck, Our Lady's, Kelvinside and Whitburn scoring 36 and conceding only 14 in the process. Double Champion Table Tennis Title for Holly


Holly Stephen has just become Scottish Primary Schools double champion in table tennis, by taking both the singles and doubles title. There are new templates available from SQA for National 5 and Higher English folios this year.  WE MUST PRESENT ALL FOLIOS IN THIS FORMAT.  The folios will then be scanned for emarking. DCHS Senior Boys basketball team remain undefeated in all competitions this season after a triumphant 98-28 Scottish cup win today over Firhill High School. Deans CHS Senior Basketball team followed up a 47-18 Scottish Cup win over Bathgate by going undefeated again at the most recent West Lothian Schools League event, qualifying in first place for the finals ahead of James Young HS. Handball Teams Qualify for National Finals


For the first time, Deans will be represented at the National handball finals by teams from S1-6 in both boys' and girls' categories. In the qualifying event, our boys' teams performed brilliantly throughout the day. Deans off to a Flyer in the Scottish Cup


The Senior boys basketball team, fresh from winning round one of the West Lothian Schools Competition last week, traveled to Broxburn for their first Scottish School's Cup game.  A slow start meant that after the first period Deans were ahead 19-10 but the team were starting to hit their shots and play with more consistency to race into a big lead. During Activities week, 40 students went to Amsterdam for the week.  We visited Anne Frank's House, the Nemo Science Centre, Ajax Stadium, a Clog and Cheese Factory, the International Court at the Hague and the Zoo. On Friday 29 May our fastest, fittest and strongest students competed in Sports Day 2015. All students involved were fantastic and rightly won points for their house. This year also saw the introduction of our alternate events so that students not involved in the finals could still win house points. Senior Football Team Receive Free Strips

Successful Bridge Building Activity


Thanks to Jed, who emailed this report about the bridge making activity in XL,  "we had to split into groups to make a bridge. We used straws, paper and sellotape.  We all worked as a team on the bridge and did a plan about how we were making it. Calum is the Scottish Youth Champion 2014


Calum Stephen won the Scottish National 2014 Fly Fishing Youth Championship last weekend, catching 15 fish on the day with 24 over the two days.  There were over 25 boys fishing in the competition.   The Scotland team for 2015 was also chosen from their scores over the two days. Another Excellent Year for Deans Exam Results!


Deans students have done extremely well in the SQA exams this year and have have succeeded in gaining yet another bumper set of results.    This was the first year of the new National Qualifications and I am delighted to let you know that that more students than ever have achieved success.
