Build a Business in a Day Success

S2 Business students enjoyed a trip to Edinburgh Napier University to compete against 12 other schools in the Build a Business in a Day workshop. Students were given a brief in which they were to decide to create an innovative food/drink/festival business.  Lots of hard work, creativity and enthusiasm powered the students into organising and delivering a fantastic pitch to the judges. Students decided to name their business 'The Lazy Food Company', and pitch a new food product named ‘Tasty Tape’ - an edible sticky tape to use on wraps for those who struggle to roll the perfect tortilla/burrito/taco/crepes. The tape would come in different flavours such as BBQ, Mayonnaise, Cajun Chicken and Nutella. Furthermore, they created their own Twitter page to showcase the potential Social Media opportunities, such as consumers being able to tweet photos of their food, including the hashtag of the business’s slogan, ' #SealYourMeal', in order to win prizes!

The judges awarded the Deans CHS team runners-up, which was a great achievement!

The judges report stated, "Deans Community High School – Tasty Tape – awarded runners-up for the originality of the idea, and for identifying a gap in the market that is not currently being filled. Stevie in particular was upset that it is not already on the market as he would definitely want some.  The judges thought that the idea itself was the best one on the day, but Broughton just pipped it with their presentation and marketing".

The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and felt it was a great opportunity for them to put their Business minds in practice. A huge well done to them all!
